The No-Kill Movement - Warehousing Dogs to Death

In writing about a recent case of several retail rescues selling off brucellosis infected dogs to members of the public in Texas and Virginia, one of them reminded me how I became what I am now, an American dog breeder and a published author.

Both careers can be traced back to a single dog named Snoopy. Let me tell you about him.  I saw Snoopy, a purebred Akita, for sale through a local animal rescue site over 20 years ago now.  As an experienced Akita owner and AKITA RESCUER, I felt I could give him a good home and applied to adopt him.  I thought it would be simple.  I never thought it would radically change my life.

My application entered me into hell in which I was interrogated by vegans, had my home thoroughly searched and my background plumbed before I could see him in person.  When I was finally cleared to visit a hidden property in Aldie, Virginia, I saw him warehoused in a small cage among over a hundred others and was covered from head to foot in urine.  He was sopping wet.  All of the white parts of his body were stained dark yellow from the urine. He was housed in such a small filthy kennel, he couldn't get away from his own waste.  I was crushed to see the living conditions he was being held in.  I apparently didn't have a good enough poker face at that point in my life because unknown to me after that visit, Snoopy was immediately moved to another hidden location.  I never saw him again.

"I got so big my owners didn't want me anymore."

Real truth?

Snoopy had a history of attacking other dogs and killed a cat.

25 years ago I worked in the animal rescue field. From the inside out, all I saw was fraud, waste and abuse. I saw streams of untraceable cash going straight into 'rescuers' pockets instead of to the animals. I saw more animal abuse on the part of rescuers than I saw animal owners committing. I saw people putting a halo on themselves and sitting on a pedestal. Completely untouchable as long as they claimed to be 'rescuers'.

I learned from what I saw with my own eyes that America does not have a 'overpopulation' problem, it has a retail rescue market problem. Let me introduce you to the straw that broke this camel's back and turned me against retail rescue forever.

It started with a dog named Snoopy as I said above.  Snoopy was living in a no-kill shelter, run by animal rights extremists (a mixture of vegetarians and vegans) warehoused in a cage for years.  The "rescue" had no clue how to handle him and his breed, they refused to LEARN about his breed, or how to correctly place him, but they “thought” they knew it all.  I could tell from my prior experience owning a hypothyroid affected Akita that Snoopy was also probably severely affected and needed medication. I told these clueless veg-idiots absolutely everything I knew about hypothyroidism in Akitas and referred them to Dr. Jean Dodd's of Hemopet who was studying hypothyroidism in the Akita breed.  FOHA didn't want to hear it.  Snoopy had also degenerated so much in the 3 years warehoused at FOHA that he had seizures and a liver infection.

Because of their attitude, he had already spent the majority of his life caged among hundreds of other dogs. This is the dark side of 'no kill' that the warm and fuzzies don't tell you.  Dogs are warehoused until they die.  It's not unicorns, love and kisses.  It is a terrible life sentence to these dogs.

At the time I didn’t know that the place that was housing Snoopy had a long history of criminal charges.  Snoopy taught me a hard lesson in life.

About this time I made friends through one of my writers organizations with a man who was the husband of a long time Standard Poodle breeder, Absolute Standard Poodles, and though him I met all their Standard Poodles and it was love at first sight!! Until this time in my life.... believe it or not, but I had NEVER met a Standard Poodle before!

I saw a cross roads in my life, with two radically different paths in front of me.  A path filled with abusive criminals calling themselves 'good' and a path filled with dog breeders called 'bad' but in reality INCREDIBLY GOOD.

I choose reality over myth.
I chose facts over heart warming fuzzies.

The bad guys in this story are Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) of Aldie, Virginia.  (True legal name:  Friends of the Animal Shelter and Guardians of the Homeless Animals) What you will read here is NOT what you will see on their warm and fuzzy website. The true ugliness of the 'no-kill' movement and my first time going up against wacked out vegans.

Let me introduce you to some of the circle jerk that made up FOHA.
  • Anne P. Lewis - Founder and President - Convicted Criminal.
  • Sue Gilbert - Called herself "Acting" President and also behind "Companion Animal Rescue & Education (CARE) of Reston, Virginia  an outlet of FOHA - Convicted Criminal.
  • Riccado Wright - Owner of the FOHA property - Criminally Charged.
  • Judy Kraft - aka "Judy the Vegan Vegetarian," best buddies of Sue Gilbert, also behind "Companion Animal Rescue & Education (CARE) of Reston, Virginia an outlet of FOHA.
  • Katie Barr - Owner of one of FOHA's warehouses - Convicted Criminal.
Through the 1990's and until at least 2002, many of the major players of FOHA were criminally charged over and over again.  The Wrights and the conditions at the Aldie facility came to public light when they (and Anne Lewis of FOHA) were sued in 1991 over a vicious dog mauling.  The victim, a kennel employee, who was mauled by a dog named "Calgary" alleged in the lawsuit that he had a known vicious history with bites on record and she was not informed that he was dangerous.

They were raided and criminally charged in 1995 after investigation into another dog mauling in December 1994 led to the discovery of a number of emaciated dogs.

Their defense was a standard ploy, they just took in those 30 animals and 'someone else did it.'  Oh and of course their secondary backup excuse, they are operating on a 'shoe string' and have good intentions.

What I found to be the truth was that FOHA was secretly very wealthy with a large stock portfolio that had been donated to them.  They fought back with a vengeance and ultimately only Lewis was found guilty of two charges.

FOHA spun the situation as they were innocent rescuers trying to 'save' animals being framed by overzealous authorities.  The same defense their long time Fairfax County, Virginia outlet run by Katie Barr ran with.

In 1997, Riccardo Wright once again faced 21 charges of failing to provide water and clean kennels when the conditions continued.  Days before his trial, he committed suicide and FOHA purchased the Aldie property from his estate where it resides today with the same 1972 constructed buildings.

Besides 1995, Anne Lewis also fought charges in 1997 and 2000.  One of the 1997 charges was over FOHA selling a vicious dog to a woman in Fairfax and the dog bit her 3 times.  Loudoun Court Judge said, "Not Guilty." The dog bit the woman 3 times in a single week and Lewis got a free pass from lenient judges once again.

In April 2001, FOHA got into trouble for possessing stolen property when FOHA magically got custody of 2 'lost' Labrador retrievers and refused to return them to their legal owner.  The owner went the authorities and they forced FOHA to give up custody of the 2 dogs to their legal owner.

In 2001 and 2002, "Acting" President Sue Gilbert was found guilty of possessing vicious dogs after two additional dog maulings by FOHA dogs.  One of the dogs bit the victim in the face.

Unlike Wright and Lewis who mostly kept getting a free pass from local judges, authorities in neighboring Fairfax County spent almost two decades trying to shut down Katie Barr's house of horrors.

Barr was criminally charged several times over the years as locals tried to figure out how to stop her from abusing and warehousing animals.  This was back in the day in which extensive animal protection laws didn't exist but they do now thanks to Barr.  In 1980 her house of horrors burned down and 33 dogs died in the fire.  She immediately started back up again collecting dogs like Tupperware and being paid to house dogs by FOHA.

"Man, I wish you would clean up your kennel so that we wouldn't have to go through this."
Judge Robert M. Hurst, April 9, 1991.

There were a number of animal seizures on Barr's property starting in 1991 and several criminal trials after law enforcement seized 82 animals in 1993. Supplemental testimony includes numerous interesting statements such as the one dated June 4, 1986 that noted active rat burrows were in almost every dog enclosure and dog feces in some areas was as much as 5" deep. A memorandum from the Fairfax County Health Department dated July 1, 1987 noted that Barr had failed to clean up any of the debris from the kennel burning down 7 years earlier and simply built new make-shift enclosures (some made out of barbed wire) next to the burned remains and the entire property was in severe disrepair. Barr sued the zoning department in 1987 demanding the right to keep even more dogs than she was permitted to have, one of several suits over the years.

After years of letters back and forth between Barr, Zoning, the Health Department etc., all documenting the filth, the rats, the suffering dogs, the unsafe conditions that Barr refused to clean up, in 1991, county officials attempt to criminally charge Barr.

She managed to successfully get the warrant thrown out and the case dismissed twice.  She then tried to sue a number of the witnesses and failed.  She of course never cleaned up her kennel so in 1993 she was raided and charged again.

Court records reveal stories like the dog, "Brownie," whose coat was so matted to the skin and nails had not been trimmed in so long that when animal control saw him, his LEG WAS EMBEDDED IN HIS COAT and he could no longer stand.  He had taught himself how to walk on 3 legs in order to move around. Law enforcement stated that it looked like he had tried to scratch himself but his leg became entangled in his own matted fur and he could not free himself.  Barr never noticed. After his leg was cut free, he had to be retaught how to walk normally on 4 legs.

Another dog seized, a Labrador retriever named Rob, had such a massive untreated gum infection that his teeth were falling out into people's hands.  He had already lost his upper teeth before being seized.

An Australian Shepherd seized had to be humanely put down after he was found covered in his own urine and feces and was unable to move.  Additionally, he was suffering from an untreated severe skin disease SO BAD that he had maggots all around his genitals and in open wounds on his body.

Yet FOHA insisted everything was just fine and sued to try and get some of the dogs back.

Lawsuits flew over the years.  If local newspapers dared to print even the smallest bit of negative news about Barr, she'd sue them.  Barr loved suing people.  She even sued her investment broker when the value of her stock portfolio went down.  As a interesting side note, FOHA was sued for racial discrimination in 1988 for refusing to adopt a dog to a Nigerian couple solely because of their race.

Yet Barr never stopped warehousing and reselling 'rescued' dogs in horrific conditions with FOHA supporting and supplying her with dogs.

Maggots are extra good care?  Dogs that can't even walk are extra good care?   IF that's 'extra good' what's bad?

Time and time again Barr got nothing but a slap on the wrist when her house of horrors was investigated.  Even when Barr continuously threatened to shoot county officials she was not held accountable.  Here's the ruling in her 1993 trial after investigation was conducted into a vicious dog named "Dexter" that FOHA was warehousing on her land. Dexter was such a vicious dog with numerous bites on record that all of his teeth were ground down so far that the pulp and nerves was exposed.  It took two people and 'control sticks' to even enter his pen. Yet because these extremists believe so strongly in 'no kill' that Dexter was just warehoused until he could die 'naturally.'

She was finally found guilty and sentenced to 75 days in jail.  She just continued on as if nothing had happened.

After decades of running hell on earth, and non-stop battles with Zoning, the Health Department and Animal Control, Fairfax County finally got a judge to order Barr's kennel closed in 1998. Of course they had to go back to court repeatedly charging her with contempt of court because she still refused to shut down.  They also continued to seize dogs from her as they found them on the property.  Katie Barr finally sold her Centreville, Virginia property in 2002 for $625,000 and retired to Florida.

Back to Snoopy.  After being turned down to adopt him, I called Loudoun County Animal Control and filed a complaint.  They asked for full particulars of Snoopy, where he was caged, etc., and conducted an unannounced inspection.  Snoopy was NOT housed at the Aldie property. Shortly after I had seen the conditions there, FOHA moved him.  The story was worse than that.  An Akita-mix named Cody was listed by FOHA as being in their care but was also missing.  FOHA told animal control that they had two Akitas but both were in the hospital and had been for over a month suffering from seizures.  Neither of them matched the dog I had seen with my own eyes and why do all of the Akitas in FOHA's custody seem to suffer from seizures?  FOHA of course figured it out that I was the one that reported them to animal control and their supporters came after me HARD.

The more they threatened me, the more I investigated and reported them.
Even "Amy the Wiccan" (Sue Gilbert's daughter) threatened that I had better stop my investigation.  Fat Chance.  The threats from FOHA supporters continued for months until I filed a police report with the Fauquier County Sheriff's Department. A week later I got a letter in the mail from FOHA threatening to sue me for libel and defamation unless I shut up.

I consider it a Badge of Honor when crooks threaten to sue me.
Bring it on I say! 'Discovery' gonna be a real good time.

I have one last thing to say about Snoopy.  If you look at his two Petfinder Ads previously shown in this article, Snoopy CAME FROM TEXAS.  Even 20+ years ago, the Retail Rescue pipeline from Mexico to Texas and then shipment to the Northeast for resale was already active.  I have emails from that period showing that I questioned them as to whether Snoopy came from Texas and they never answered.

Another interesting side note to this story was my interview of animal rights extremist Hilleary Bogley in 2001.  I tried to interview as many people that would agree to talk to me that had interactions with FOHA over the years.  Bogley claimed to have done undercover investigations into FOHA several times.  She referred me to her buddies the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) for help.  They just sent me a propaganda package filled with PETA fact sheets and others.  Nine years later Bogley would attempt to destroy me.

Ultimately I did not save Snoopy.  He disappeared and his fate is unknown, but I started writing about retail rescue and the horrors within it and 21 years later I'm still writing about it.  You can thank FOHA for all of that.

As for FOHA, they are still in business, still raking in the cash (over $2 million in assets while sitting on 20 tax exempt acres valued at $700,000+) and still getting in trouble for housing and reselling vicious dogs.  They currently have at least 1 dog registered with Virginia's Dangerous Dog Registry.

Exposing Cons Brings the Home Girls Out

A couple of my recent stories about Retail Rescues making truly insane amounts of money selling off sick, contagious or vicious dogs hit a nerve recently.   Meet Scotti Fitzgerald.  This gutter muffin thinks she knows more than me about how to properly rescue and save animals.  I have underwear older than her.   But go ahead sugar, tell me how SPECIAL you are, as if I can't see from all the selfies.

Now Scotti here with her years of experience in breeding, raising, training and rescuing dogs, oh and let's not forget all of her years of veterinarian experience in contagious disease!  Yes, Scotti is just SO SURE that she knows more than me about the proper management of a contagious disease that can infect and kill your child, you or any member of your family.

Yeah, Scotti is a real expert.  Let's see what she has to say about a Virginia Retail Rescue selling a known brucellosis infected 2nd hand dog they sourced out of Texas while making at least $5 million in less than 5 years.

Oh yeah, tell me how special you are.  I also saw that while you dispute how much money your buddies are pulling in tax-free, you personally also paid some of the vet bills for them.  So sweetheart, did you ever get paid back?   Or, sob, sob, was it FOR THE ANIMALS?

Cry me a river.   Honey, you've been had.   And if you transported that horrifically wounded dog over state lines, you are a criminal.   It is illegal to transport a dog in that condition.

But wait, there's more!  These Retail Rescue's didn't like the fact that I had pointed out that American dog breeders had almost completely eradicated brucellosis from American dogs before the "rescue" crowd brought it back in spades.  So the fact that THE RESCUE sold off a brucellosis positive dog, they decided to blame that one on breeders.  How dare I challenge their narrative!  Meet Jennifer, the main focus of one of my recent articles.

So which breeder is that Jennifer and JoEllen?  The majority of these dogs collected up in Texas really come from Mexico.  I really love how Jennifer wants you to believe that breeders "kill their waste."  Really honey?  Just how is that?  But wait, more deluded supporters showed up to troll my page overnight and deflect blame off Jennifer.

Hey Amber, what happens in Mexico ain't my problem.  You want to 'solve' this at the source?   How about we get that border wall finished?   That will solve a huge part of this Retail Rescue pipeline and put your buddies out of business.  But go ahead, keep hating on American dog breeders who are not the problem.

Poor Jennifer, I feel sorry for her this morning.  Here she thought she'd have a nice calm day selling off 2nd hand dogs for $$$$ but now someone's looking at the dirt in her backyard.

So Jennifer... tell me about that brewery.

Another Brucellosis Positive Dog Sold in Virginia

In my previous article in this 3 part series, I introduced you to Ozzy.   A brucellosis positive dog in Texas that a Retail Rescue named "This Is Houston" was offering for sale to the public.

In the resulting public backlash from their attempts to sell an infectious dog that is a hazard to humans, some interesting supporters came forward.  One of them is  Jennifer Quesenberry Aufdenberg, the co-founder of Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue in Stephens City, Virginia.

For those of you following what Retail Rescue is doing these days, it should come as no surprise that her rescue had resold a brucellosis infected dog around 18 months ago to an 'adopter' who has an auto-immune condition. For people like her, its all about the tax-free cash and the social justice warrior halo polishing.

I had to laugh as one of the first posts I saw on her page was a cross post about allegedly stray purebred German Shepherds outside the FOHA shelter in Aldie, Virginia and begging for help.  In a former lifetime I spent 10 years researching the truly ugly history of FOHA after seeing one of their properties in person.   The cruelty, the abuse, the hoarding, the warehousing.   It just doesn't get much uglier than FOHA's history.  I should know, I FOIA'd the court records of several of their criminal trials over 10 years ago.  I still have the records.  (someone reading this is squirming right now).

If you are a reputable rescuer in Virginia for any serious length of time, you know FOHA's dirty history.  In fact, it was FOHA itself that put me on the path I am today.  All of my work to expose dirty rescues can be traced back to the horrors I discovered about FOHA.  Turning my back on Retail Rescue itself and becoming a proud American dog breeder for the past 20 years can also be traced back to FOHA.  Thanks rescuers!  You showed me the truth.

Unfortunately Shendandoah has only been around for less than 5 years according to their records.   Even for such a newcomer though, they have the Retail Rescue blackmail language down pat.  Every dog is in severe need.  Every former owner is 'abusive.'

If you look at Shenandoah's Facebook page its filled with fundraising statements like, "This dog has 1 hour to live unless you help."   Amazingly enough Shenandoah Shepherd is also sourcing dogs out of Texas.   Which as I pointed out in my previous article in this series, are mostly coming out of Mexico.  Just like "This is Houston" Jennifer seems to make a specialty out of dogs hit by cars.   As if every stray dog in Texas has been hit by a car.

There's no one's word but Shenandoah's that this story is true.  Stop falling for everything you read.

Like many Retail Rescues , they charge a $20 non-refundable fee to 'apply' for one of their special dogs.  They sell on average of around 12 dogs a week.   They are nothing more than a rescue mill.

"They" claim to have resold 2,000 dogs since 2017.   Well really its just Jennifer Aufdenberg.   She's the only one behind the curtain.

Her cheapest fee to purchase one of her dogs is $250.  That doesn't count her endless fundraising to pay the vet bills of all the dogs.  Just to purchase the dog is $250.   That means she has a base income of $5 million dollars in less than 5 years for reselling dogs that she more than likely gets for free.   Don't forget that each dog had a $20 non-refundable application fee.   That's an additional $40,000 in just application fees that we KNOW about.  How many applied for a dog and never got one?

Of course her IRS 990's do not match her social media boasts.  To the IRS she claims to have only made $500,911 in 2019, with $88,299 in adoption fees alone.   Poor Jennifer, she only had $66,769 cash in her pocket after the year was over with.  She shares these sad financial facts with her 'president' who is listed as Kaitlin Vazquez.

Funny how these Retail Rescuer's make a living slandering American dog breeders to the public so they can live off of all tax free donations but these rescues sell off more dogs than any American dog breeder could ever be producing.

What American dog breeder has made $5 million in undeclared income in 4.5 years?  None of us!

Besides all the money she's pulling in, where are the dogs? Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue has a mailing address and a 'process serving' address.  Neither property looks suitable for housing dozens of Mexican street dogs.  So where are they?

Where are all the dogs housed that she's selling for tax free profit?  Where is that brucellosis infected dog now?

They may be housed at the mysterious "president"s place. The woman that isn't part of the group..... The group of ONE.

The mysteriously disappearing 'president.'

YOU can act in these situations.  Here's some steps to take.  "Shenandoah Shepherd Rescue" is run by Jennifer Aufdenberg, 122 Littlewing Way, Stephens City, VA 22655.   Report her to the USDA via their online complaint form.  Has the USDA inspected her and has every single dog imported over Virginia state lines arrived with a health certificate as required by law?

Report her to the Commonwealth of Virginia and to the CDC for reselling a brucellosis infected dog.  This case may have already been reported but chances are good it hasn't.  Make sure it is!  How do you know that dog isn't in your community exposing your children to an infectious disease?

You can also contact the following entities and complain about them allowing Jennifer at their events:

Virginia has a notorious reputation as a HOT MARKET for Retail Rescue.  There are 'Jennifer's' on every corner reselling imported dogs to Virginia residents and making a fortune.  This will only stop when you take a stand and report them.

Stay tuned for Part 3 of this series, as I take a deeper look at This Is Houston.

Victim Lay In Pool Of Her Own Blood After Dog Mauling

Retail rescue has brainwashed Americans into believing that victims mauled by dogs are somehow at fault.  It's called projection.  Their dirty secret is that they are reselling known vicious dogs to innocent owners for the tax-free profit.  There's no money to be had in putting a vicious dog down when you can resell it instead.  These dogs are ticking time bombs just waiting for the next victim.

A story hit the news in Virginia this week when a local rescue posted a fundraising plea for 19 dogs that a Maryland rescue calling itself R&T Loving Paws had abandoned at the Danville Pet Resort in Virginia and skipped out on somewhere around $80,000 to $100,000 in unpaid boarding bills.  That's the best part of this story.  Further investigation reveals some deeply disturbing facts as you'll see.

First R&T Loving Paws, Inc. is some sort of company run by Cindy Coulter that ships in dogs in to the mid-Atlantic area for resale as 'rescues' and dumps them on gullible kennel owners who think they are supporting a 'rescue.'  Hint:  Always check IRS 990's first.  There is no such IRS registered group as R&T Loving Paws in either Virginia or Maryland.

The story broke when a Virginia group claimed that R&T Loving Paws/Cindy Coulter skipped out on paying her $80,000 kennel bill she owes to Countryside Kennels & Luxury Suites kennel in Ownings, Maryland and that she then dumped 38 dogs at the Danville Pet Resort in Virginia.  19 of them have been left there since December 15, 2020 without a dime in payment.  The Danville Pet Resort is out almost $50,000 in unpaid boarding bills.  When contacted Cindy claimed she didn't sign any paperwork agreeing to pay them.  Instead she blamed it all on her trainer "Jonathan."  She further claims that Jonathan dumped the 38 dogs there without her permission.  Really?  So why didn't you go get them?

Kevin Montgomery, the owner of Countryside Kennels came forward to state that she's skipped out on $150,000 in boarding bills owed to 4 kennels.

But its not just not paying her bills.  The dogs she's shipping across state lines for resale are sick with various communicable disease and parasites and a number of them are vicious.

A former volunteer for R&T Loving Paws came forward to testify that she witnessed the dog attacks and transports of dog shipments over state lines.  That she witnessed vicious dogs being transported between Virginia and Maryland kennels after they mauled someone to hide their bite histories.   Here's a hint for you, Virginia has a Dangerous Dog Registry.  Owners of vicious dogs in Virginia are required to register the whereabouts of the dog so community members can see that known vicious dog lives among them.

There are so many dog mauling stories that its hard to keep track of them.  Let's discuss two of R&T's dogs.

Dexter & Dozer:  Known Maulers advertised for sale to the public as 'good with children.'

To some up the various comments made, a dog named Dexter viciously attacked a kennel worker at the Olde Towne Pet Resort kennel in Springfield, Virginia.   The employee needed several surgeries to recover from the attack.  Dexter was then illegally transported over state lines to Maryland and left at the Countryside Kennel in Ownings, Maryland to hide him.  There he attacked two more kennel workers.  Staff were not told of his previous bite history.  Another dog named Dozer attacked a maintenance man in a totally unprovoked attack in Maryland.  The man wasn't even near the dog when the dog went for him.  Dozer broke out of his kennel to attack the man.  Dozer also has a history of attacking someone at a previous kennel.   Another volunteer came forward to state she worked there when Cindy Coulter got her finger torn off by one of her vicious dogs.   Dexter and Dozer need to be found and humanely euthanized.  Neither dog is suitable for resale to the public, let alone to a family with children.

It's not just Dexter and Dozer.  She was trying to sell a dog named Katie in 2020 that bit a man and had 'been returned several times.'  There are other reviews from a woman sold a dog that bit her husband and son.  Then there's Lyla.  Lyla has a long bite history, with multiple bites on record including biting a child.

Back to those unpaid bills.

Numerous people have come forward with information about this situation.  One, Elizabeth Wilmot worked at Countyside Kennels in Maryland where Cindy Coulter boarded some of her dozens of rescue dogs.   Elizabeth also posted that Cindy Coulter had been provided with copies of all the bills due by email, mail and hand delivered.

The owner of Countryside Kennels commented that they aren't all vicious, some are just sick with untreated health issues (including parvo) and Cindy Coulter makes the new owners deal with it.  She just collects the $350-$450 per dog sales price.

In a great turn of events, Cindy is all over the internet vomiting up her defense for skipping out on paying her bills.  In one post she whines about the 'rules' for non-profit loans for COVID being an issue.   Since when does a Retail Rescue qualify for a COVID Relief Loan?

In another post she whines that she got into trouble because "borders were closed."  What borders is that?  The borders you were importing dogs over for resale in Virginia?  The transport runs you had where people brought dogs and cats from TEXAS and GEORGIA into Virginia and Maryland so you could resell them for profit?

Others came forward stating that Cindy continued to run new transport runs from Texas and Georgia to bring new dogs into Maryland to sell while at the same time Cindy whines in response that COVID was causing people to dump their dogs during lock downs in 2020 and she was just overwhelmed by everyone dumping their dogs.  This lady said it all.

Funny how every rescue in America was empty and struggling to get in enough product to sell off during the COVID lockdowns because people were adopting like crazy.   Adopting from every rescue in America except Cindy's if you believe her.  Maybe, just maybe and I'm spitballing here, but maybe American's don't want to have their children ripped to shreds by Cindy's vicious dogs?

Another question... who exactly is this mysterious Jonathan she employed as a trainer and 'manager' that she now claims to have fired.  If you look up her history, she appears to have a 20 year old son named Jonathan.  Was she employing her own children in her "production" as she calls R&T Loving Paws?  If so, at 20 years of age, he's not remotely experienced enough to be a professional dog trainer.  What exactly is this mysterious Jonathan's education and training?

As for her financials, they are pretty dodgy.  Cindy claims she's been in business for 6 years and the mysterious Jonathan is her employee.  The IRS says no such non-profit exists in Maryland or Virginia.  Where are her IRS 990's?  Cindy can't pay $150,000+ in kennel bills but she claims to have paid for a parvo infected dog to have double hip surgery.  She claims she's paid $70,000 in 2020 alone for veterinary bills.

Remember the common red flags for dirty rescues.  This situation has several.  Importing hundreds of dogs over state lines.  Dodgy finances.   Stories that can't be verified.  Dozens of bad reviews/stories.

YOU can act to stop these frauds.  Here's how:

Report Cindy Coulter and R&T Loving Paws, Indian Head, Maryland to Virginia state officials. If indeed she is a legal charity that does any business or collects any donations in Virginia, then as such, she is required to register with The Office of Charitable and Regulatory Programs (OCRP).  This is required of all charities, not only charities based in Virginia.  Drive a shipment of dogs through Virginia for resale, you'd better be registered!

Everyone that witnessed or was a victim to one of her dog attacks in Virginia and Maryland, report her to that counties animal control. In Virginia, insist that report be made to the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services as required by Virginia law. In Maryland, Coulter can be held criminally liable for every dog bite from a dog that has been known to bite before. I'd also suggest seeing a lawyer and exploring your civil options.

Every single dog that Cindy Coulter shipped across any state line from Georgia, Texas, Virginia or Maryland required a Health Certificate be issued prior to shipping proving the dog was healthy.  It is illegal to ship sick dogs across state lines.  Report her to the USDA.  Commenters report that she was shipping 45+ dogs a transport run and selling sick dogs to the public.  This is a violation of USDA regulations.  Insist that they investigate her.  They have a handy online complaint form.

Only you can stop these fraudulent and dangerous Retail Rescues but you must act.

Terrified Senseless, Roo wants her Mommy - the Whispering Pines Poodle story

As I approach the 10 year anniversary of the destruction of the Whispering Pines poodles at the hands of an animal rights extremist and the release of my next book, I'd like to walk down #MemoryLane
Roo-Roo from the cover of
Staring the Dragon in the Eye

Picture the scene 10 years ago. For 12 hours, jack booted thugs trash my home, terrorize and steal my dogs and glory in causing me agonizing pain that continues to this day.

This is Roo-Roo's story.
My heart dog. The girl that started it all. My first born puppy out of my first born litter. Long established poodle breeders told me to kill her when she was born because she has a large white spot on her chest. I defied them all. She was the fattest roly-poly puppy ever. I named her Chubbers for fun. As she grew into a stately trim young lady I called her Chubber-Roo. When we were being silly I Roo-Roo'd her like Scooby-Doo.  She answered to them all.  She had the funniest sense of humor ever and understood I was teasing her.   Then again some days I’d
teasingly call her Chicken Butt, and she not only answered to it, but she thought it was funny and
her tail would wag back and forth a million miles an hour while she laughed at me and gave me kisses.

Roo-Roo may have been the one who started it all but I had been in poodles for 4 years by the time she came along.  I researched lines and studied genetics like a fanatic before I finally had my first litter of poodle puppies.  No one plans for the birth of a dog like this unless they put their whole heart and soul into what they are doing.

Bucket her because she's not solid colored?  Not a chance.

Making fun of all the hysterics over her white chest spot, I named her "Dont Drink The Milk of DGL" to poke fun.  Her full name was UKC Grand Champion WPs Don’t Drink The Milk Of DGL, CGC, CHIC. She was out of UKC Grand Champion/Int’l Champion DGL’s Theadore Three Of Nine and K-Lar’s Chocolate Latte, CHIC.  I was warned that I would never be accepted in mainstream poodle circles if I kept her but I stood steadfast.  I wasn't about to bucket anything.

Roo-Roo at 3 weeks old.

When Chubbs opened her eyes at ten days of age, she looked up at me, locked eyes with me with fanatical devotion, and said, “You are my mommy.” In the five and a half years she shared my life, she never stopped giving me that exact same look. Everyone who met her commented on how in Chubbers’ mind, I was her entire world. She would tolerate others and was a friendly affectionate girl, but her entire heart, mind, and soul was devoted to me and no one else.

At 6th months old she started her show career quickly becoming my first home bred champion dog.  She was shown from Ohio to New Jersey to North Carolina.
I continued to show her towards a Grand Champion title. To earn such a title she had to have five major wins under at least three different judges in which she defeated at least two other titled champions each time. Roo-Roo was shown in front of hundreds of people and physically examined by dozens of judges.

Once she finished kicking butt in the show ring, she was retired to become a mommy and start her second career in competition obedience.  I started her off with AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program.  She had to pass a 10-step test to be awarded the CGC, including being touched by friendly strangers, walking calmly though crowds, sit-stays and others.  From there I started training her for basic obedience and rally so she could join her brother who was already competing in both in addition to agility.

Hilleary Bogley would claim to the media that I stored my dogs in airline shipping containers and they were so abused that they 'struggled to stand.'   Yeah, my Roo-Roo was so abused and so little socialized by me that I took her to the Poodle Club of America National Specialty show in Salisbury, Maryland in 2007. She was tested at their cardiac clinic that year in front of and mingling with approximately 2,000 other poodles and their owners and handlers entered in the weeks festivities.   She had a marvelous time.  She thought it was funny all the covert stares at her chest spot.

During Roo-Roo's life time there was only one instance that she didn't sleep in my bed cuddled by me every night.  That was during Snowmaggedon 2010.  The horrible natural disaster that hit Virginia just 6 weeks before Hilleary Bogley destroyed my life.   With a newborn litter of puppies trapped in a natural disaster, their lives were on the line.  Recognizing their needs over her fanatical love for me, Roo-Roo climbed into their whelping bed and helped River keep them warm.  Roo helped River’s babies survive recognizing their needs over her love for me.

During the animal rights terror raid of my home on April 10, 2010, Roo was the 2nd dog stolen from me.  Fauquier County Animal Control Officer Lane Phillippe told vegan animal rights extremist Hilleary Bogley that he saw nothing wrong with her and why should she be seized? Bogley replied back, "We seize them all." I later faced no charges for Roo-Roo's care and condition yet I never saw her again.

As the
2nd dog seized, Roo-Roo was not only in season, she was wearing doggie period pants at the time of the seizure.  I also never recovered all the gear that Bogley's raid force stole from me. Roo's doggie pants, the multiple leashes and other gear stolen? Gone! I warned Phillippe and everyone I saw that Roo-Roo was in season and she had to be kept away from all male dogs. I was soundly ignored.

I later found out that Hilleary Bogley bred Roo-Roo while she was in her custody.  I never found out what happened to Roo or any potential puppies.  I just saw a notation in Bogley's records that one of my dogs was later tested for pregnancy and was positive.  As the only dog in season at the time of the raid, it had to have been Roo.

When Phillippe took her, my heart was breaking and I was screaming inside, but I stayed calm, leaned over and gave my beloved dog of my heart, my first born girl, my sweetheart and constant companion of the past 5 ½ years a single kiss goodbye, and then calmly walked away as if nothing unusual was happening.  I wanted to spare her as much trauma and pain as possible. This was truly the hardest moment of my life and I will never forget it. Nor will I ever forget her screams as she was separated from me.   Phillippe had to drag her away by her neck because she refused to leave my side.  Her bloodcurdling screams will remain imprinted in my heart, my  mind, and my soul for the rest of my life. I tried to handle it as calmly as possible to save her the trauma but Roo wasn’t fooled. She did not want to go with these people.

She may have been the 2nd dog taken but his van is the last to leave my home.   He never once checked on her.

He gave her no water.

He gave her no food.

He never let her out to relieve herself.

Roo just days before she was taken.
She had just visited the Tractor Supply store in town

For 12 hours Roo-Roo screamed in terror locked away in his truck, soundly ignored by this sworn Fauquier Sheriff's Deputy.   My ears echo to this day with the sounds of my Roo’s screaming bloody murder as she beat on the walls of his truck desperate to escape from them and return to the only mommy she had ever known. The memory of her pain, distress, and outright terror will remain tattooed on my heart in blood.
